Job description:

Engineering Culture team, part of Platform Engineering, is seeking an expert engineer to join our efforts in enabling 3000+ internal developers to deliver software with speed and quality. We foster an innovative, inclusive culture that promotes diversity and continuous learning.

Your role as an expert will focus on:

• Leading the development and advocacy of our internal developer portal, Backstage
• Driving Backstage’s technical direction for secure, scalable, and maintainable operations
• Crafting and implementing the product roadmap to address our engineers’ critical needs and pain points
• Championing user-centric development practices
• Mentoring team members and contributors, elevating their technical and architectural skills
• Providing senior engineering perspectives in organizational discussions and projects

We’re seeking an experienced professional who can:

• Demonstrate extensive hands-on experience with Backstage development in large, international organizations
• Set and execute strategic roadmaps, driving decisions from both technical and product standpoints
• Exhibit strong leadership, empowering peers and fostering a culture of innovation
• Think strategically about technology and its impact on organizational efficiency
• Collaborate effectively with various teams and stakeholders at all levels

 Tech Skills we value:

• Proficiency in TypeScript, React, Node.js, and experience contributing to large-scale frontend and backend systems
• Strong knowledge of Backstage architecture, plugin development, and catalog modeling
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and developer workflows using tools such as GitHub, Azure DevOps, or similar
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and container orchestration (Kubernetes)
• Understanding of APIs, authentication/authorization (OAuth, OIDC), and service integrations
• Solid grounding in testing practices, observability, and performance optimization
• Comfort with infrastructure-as-code and automation approaches (Terraform, Helm, etc.)

Our ideal candidate embodies the strategist and teacher archetypes more than a pure technologist. Your expertise will be crucial in establishing and enforcing high-level engineering standards, including advanced coding practices, testing methodologies, and deployment procedures.
